HIDDEN HISTORIES OF SAN ANTONIO
“Hidden Histories of San Antonio” is a reclamation of the identity and narrative of my indigenous ancestors’ stories, countering colonial narratives of what is now southern Texas through the use of augmented reality, mesmerizing slow-motion images, and recorded oral histories shared by mission descendants.

Impact
This project will confront long-standing colonialist narratives, change the conversation around the history of Texas, open up educational opportunities for adults and children, and promote a more critical, skeptical approach to “official” histories.

An immersive mobile device platform designed to facilitate interaction with art through narrative and non-linear processes of discovery.

Design mockups for an augmented reality application which will guide users around Mission San José as they explore the grounds in search of interactive stories, oral histories, and archival fragments.

Visitors to the San Antonio Missions will be able to explore hidden, non-linear stories connecting contemporary oral history + images with historical records + archives.

Users will be able to gather a personal archive of story elements they encounter to engage with after they have left the missions.
